BREAKING UP
You cannot claim I haven’t tried,
To see your point of view;
The simple truth is that you lied,
And now I can’t trust you.
When I look at you
There’s something new –
To which I respond –
With a pain inside
That can’t be denied -
We can’t repair this bond.
You say that we could work it out –
You’ve begged me to try -
But since you’ve been found out, I –
Can’t find a reason why.
Maybe I’ve been waiting –
Subconsciously –
Maybe I’ve been waiting for,
The right opportunity.
When I look at you
There’s something new –
To which I respond –
With a hurt I cannot hide or
Cure, there’s no magic wand.
When you’re living in the comfort zone
Infidelity’s a catalyst –
For desires, forgotten or unknown,
For the stimulus you have missed.
Although there’s sex on tap,
And a warm hug after work,
Familiarity breeds contempt
And you’ll wind up going berserk.
We shared gifts and invitations,
Papers and breakfast in bed –
I really like your mum and dad,
But now you’ve messed with my head.
When I look at you
There’s something new –
To which I respond –
Gone is the cool and confidence,
Of which I was so fond.
Unfazed by my approach in the club,
When I said, “I like brunettes,”
Your eyes lit up when I asked for a dance
And you smiled and whispered “Let’s,”
Every time you spoke to me that night
You got right up close to my face,
Later on you told me it was only
To compensate for the bass.
Now when I look at you
There’s something new –
That you try and conceal –
And you once said that honesty,
Is like a wound that’s quick to heal.
