ANTHONY BURGESS
A CLOCKWORK ORANGE, 1962, Penguin
Books
A fairly disturbing insight into
the surreal world of Alex, a young teenager, living for the day
and taking what he needs. His droogs are the basis of his activities,
until Dim - Alex's lowly viewed droog steps out of line. Music is
the sunshine in Alex's life and he hits out when Dim pokes fun at
it. From here Alex's life takes a new perspective, and he is 'rehabilitated'
by the government. He returns, years later to a new and alien world
with no droogies for company. The language takes some getting used
to, but it's a book that gives a fresh perspective on the violence
and corruption in society. AN oct01
